FAQs

WHY THE NAME: 'THE GROGGY OWL'?

Oh. I like owls, and I’m always tired. The Groggy Owl is my side hustle, so a lot of my jewellery making happens in the middle of the night, or very early in the morning.

WHAT IS ELECTROFORMING?

I use a variety of materials and techniques when creating pieces for The Groggy Owl. One of those techniques is the intricate process of electroforming. Making jewellery using this method is basically like art meets science. It’s essentially the process of transferring metal (in this case, copper) onto a conductive medium through electrodeposition.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY 'HAND-STAMPED'?

Many of my items are hand-stamped, meaning each letter or design was individually hammered by hand into the metal by yours truly! Because of this, there may be slight variations in the alignment and impressions. Not only is this just the nature of hand-stamped pieces - but it's also part of the charm!

HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR 'ZERO WASTE' COLLECTION?

The process depends on which materials are used in each piece, whether it's upcycled plastic, fabric, paper, recycled metal or other misc. "re-claimed" materials. Visit Our Handmade Process page to learn more.
